THE IDEA
"Top" hip hop dances have a different impact on different people.
Until recently, there has not been an event presenting the various styles of "top" dances: Popping, Locking, Hip-hop New Style and House.
A long-time lover of street dance, Bruce Soné, and the MPT Victor Jara led by Pascal Gilbert decided to jointly organise a journey of perfection in New York where the idea was to reward outstanding students in classes conducted by them. These classes were taught by 3 great American dancers and choreographers: Brian Green, Shannon Mabra and Jazzy J.
In 2002, the organisers travelled to France to conduct these classes with the purpose of reaching out to more people. Ultimately, they wanted to develop the street dance scene in France by allowing people to see the greats of street dancers in their home country. With that, "Juste Debout" was born.
WHAT EXACTLY IS "JUSTE DEBOUT"?
A World-wide Event for All!
The most highly respected event in the world of street dance is here. Imagine a gathering of professionals and dance enthusiasts from all around the world meeting for the sole purpose of awarding recognition and respect to deserving dancers for their originality, musicality, homogeneity and spirit - this is Juste Debout. Through the preselection rounds and dance workshops held by the jury who are the greats of street dance, a stimulating arena for dancers around the world is created. This is how, in street dance, we will honor the pioneers of the past, celebrate the practitioners of today and discover the talents of tomorrow.
International Pre-selection Rounds Judged only by the Best
The pre-selections consist 10 rounds of competition held in different countries with the finals held in the stately City Hall in Paris. Only 16 pairs of dancers from around the world will be eligible to compete on that day in Bercy, Paris, France. They face-off on a 2-v-2 dance battle in front of a professional jury who are icons in street dance. There, 4 pairs will be chosen as winners in the 4 main categories and 1 dancer in the "Experimental" category.
A Free Bi-Monthly Magazine
Since 2005, Juste Debout has also been the first free dance magazine in France. There is no equivalent to this where 20,000 copies are circulated in dance schools and national-wide cultural dance events.
